KeePassX

KeePassX 2.0 Alpha 1 released

Despite the seeming lack of activity KeePassX is alive and we are proud to announce
the first 2.0 Alpha release.

This is the first release of KeePassX 2, which supports the KeePass 2 file format.
There are still lots of features missing, but the basic functionality is there.
Most importantly you can’t import databases from KeePassX 0.4 yet.

Feel free to test the new release and report any issues at http://www.keepassx.org/dev.
You can get the source code from http://www.keepassx.org/dev/projects/keepassx/files
or checkout the git repository at http://gitorious.org/keepassx.

Beware, this is an alpha release and not intended to be used in a production environment.

So far the release has only been tested on Linux, so any feedback from other platforms is appreciated.

Thank you, glad to be able to use a linux-native version of KeePass 2, keep the good work guys

  7. Iain says:

Fantastic! While it looks limited at the moment, just being able to copy/paste the password on MacOS is really handy (I find KeePass under mono to be so slow as to be virtually unusable, and it doesn’t let you copy/paste).

  8. Finally, I was really getting sick of KeePass 2, with mono… Doesn’t work well at all! As soon as you get a final version, I’ll send a donation on your way! 🙂

Just tried to build on Ubuntu 12.04 precise pangolin:
works fine (quick test with 2 Keepass2 files)
You need (at least) these packages: cmake libqt4-dev libgcrypt11-dev

Thanks for keeping this project alive. I use keepassx on OSX on a daily basis and sync to my the db to iphone via MiniKeePass app. KeepassX rocks!

I’m a big keypass user and trying to work on a mac. Would love a good tool with keyboard shortcuts that functions well so I don’t have to start all over again! Thanks for the work!

  16. Stygmatik says:

    Guys, you just rock !

Long time I was waiting for it ! I’ll test it on all my OSes !

  17. Rance says:

Thanks so much! I am looking forward to feature parity with Keepass 2.19+ in the future with the new Alpha. Does the new KeepassX 2.0 branch support(or plan to support) Keepass 2.x addons/plugins, such as integration with “Keefox” (www.keefox.org) – a Firefox plugin that allows Keepass 2.x to easily store website passwords etc… Being able to have the complete featureset and interact with Keepass 2.x, including addons/plugins, will be a great boon to the community.

Is there a binary build of this for Mac OS X? I just installed the mono version of Keepass and it was unusable. I’d love to be able to stick with Keepass and be able to use it on OS X.

  19. Matt says:

Yeah i would also love it if you one of the devs could build a binary for OSX so we don’t have to download cmake to compile 🙂

  20. Brooke says:

I tried to compile this on the mac, and after some work it error’d with:

    Linking CXX static library libkeepassx_core.a
    [ 71%] Built target keepassx_core
    [ 71%] Building CXX object src/CMakeFiles/KeePassX.dir/main.cpp.o
make[2]: *** No rule to make target `src/libkeepassx_core.a’, needed by `src/KeePassX.app/Contents/MacOS/KeePassX’. Stop.
    make[1]: *** [src/CMakeFiles/KeePassX.dir/all] Error 2
    make: *** [all] Error 2

I not that familiar with this kind of app development so am unsure what to do next. Any help is appreciated.

  21. Dan says:

If anybody gets it compiled on OS X, please let us know. I would love to help bug squash.
