Despite the seeming lack of activity KeePassX is alive and we are proud to announce
the first 2.0 Alpha release.
This is the first release of KeePassX 2, which supports the KeePass 2 file format.
There are still lots of features missing, but the basic functionality is there.
Most importantly you can’t import databases from KeePassX 0.4 yet.
Feel free to test the new release and report any issues at http://www.keepassx.org/dev.
You can get the source code from http://www.keepassx.org/dev/projects/keepassx/files
or checkout the git repository at http://gitorious.org/keepassx.
Beware, this is an alpha release and not intended to be used in a production environment.
So far the release has only been tested on Linux, so any feedback from other platforms is appreciated.
At last some screenshots:
I wish this were easier to build. I installed cmake, but that wasn’t enough. Seems to require other things. I have Xcode installed, but other stuff is needed. I guess I’ll have to wait for a binary build to show up.
Could we get a binary of the v2 Alpha? Would make it easier to test.
Thanks
Right click on the item doesn’t work! To copy a password I need to open the item in edit mode and then copy it by hand… Please fix copying password on a right click.
Looking forward to the next build with additional functionality like right click copy. 🙂
I’ve tried so many alternatives since moving to my Mac (I need some way to Print). I have not found something suitable. Look forward to trying out KeepassX when it’s ready for Mac! (I’m just a user, not a tech, so “building” is not for me.) Please, please make some kind of Print function available – thanks!!
I built it and installed dependencies on 10.6.7 but the resulting binary refuses to run with the following error message (tried on 10.6.7 AND 10.6.8):
Incompatible library version: QtGui requires version 47.0.0 or later, but libpng12.0.dylib provides version 45.0.0
Now, how do I resolve that? Any ideas?
Oh I forgot to say that I used homebrew (which was installerd freshly for that purpose).
Way to go! I’ve been checking this page for updates for many months and now I am really looking forward to a stable usable version of KeePassX 2.0
This project is essential for anybody who works with different OSs. Thank you for your work!
Here we are!
Try it out!

It works, great.
I was looking for this since I changed to Mac last year.
Thanks
HI Hi Hi, I just want to to thank you so much…. I switched from WIN to MAC ľ months ago, and I have been cursing every day that there is no usable password manager on MAC…. So I’m very happy, that we have executable/binary to work with:)

Thanks Frederic! It works great! I’m surprised how well it works in fact – even all the favicon image icons are displayed. awesome!
Seems legit.
Frederic! Bless you. Losing KeePass on my move from Win7 to MacBook was one of my low points. I am a happy guy again!
Hi, the beta works great on openSUSE Factory x64. Building the executable was easy; apparently my system already had the necessary dependencies.
I am excited to try the code when it has more features.
Global Auto-Type Shortcut is most important feature of KeePasX, pity its still missing in 2.0
Hi,
For Frederic’s build, I appreciate the post, as I’m no longer in a position to compile and build things either.
That being said, can anyone else confirm that this build isn’t compromised? I would hate to have my password protection system have a keylogger in it.

Built fine after following instructions in INSTALL. Imported a basic KeePass 1 database, and saved it fine. Look forward to 2.0 final!
Is there anyone working on addons for Firefox/other browsers for KeePassX?
Tried the build, it puked on FindGrypt.make…. then I saw the link for the DMG. Works well using my primary kdbx stored on Dropbox. Nice job!
WOOT
Thanx for great work! Mono port under linux is not what I want to use. I am using keepassx 0.4.x versions for long time, and it works great! I am looking forward for new stable version of keepassx with kdbx support. Again – thank you for great work!
Excellent product!
Question: The Keepass 2 lately published vuln has anything to do with KeepassX?
Regards
Hi. I’m have keepassx database on my PC and my flash drive. Sometimes I add new entries ti my flash database and of course this entries are not autmatically added on my PC database. It will be great if keepassx will have ability to synchronize to databases. Is it possible to implement it?
Best wishes,
Kakadu
Working well so far on Lion 10.7.3 using homebrew and few packages mentioned above by Xen.
Also agree that I’d love to see the auto-type feature come first, but I’m sufficiently happy to use a native app vs the Mono port of Keepass2. It was slow and ugly.
Keep up the good work!
On centos 6 I just spent many hours hunting down the solution to a very simple issue. I’m hoping this might save a few others from the ordeal. When running cmake I was getting missing QT_QMAKE errors. After many hours of searching and fruitless trial and error I found this post http://scientificlinuxforum.org/index.php?showtopic=825 which basically points out that you –
SHOULD NOT ATTEMPT THE BUILD UNTIL YOU INSTALL QT-DEVEL. On Centos 6 qt4 and qt3 are installed by default but not qt-devel. There may have been notes that qt-devel is a dependency or required but I missed it.
Works very well with Ubuntu! Great job
Works on UbuntuStudio 12.04 and Fedora 18.
