We’ve just released KeePassX 2.0.2 which fixes important regressions from 2.0.1.
Please upgrade as soon as possible.
Full changelog:
- Fix regression in database writer that caused it to strip certain special
characters (characters from Unicode plane > 0). - Fix bug in repair function that caused it to strip non-ASCII characters.
You can fetch the new release from the downloads page.
Good to se my favourite password manager getting updates. Keep up the good work!
Is there a version compatible with Ubuntu 16.04?
do you run this ppa? https://launchpad.net/~keepassx/+archive/ubuntu/ppa
if so, can you please update it?
Roshan: It turns out that it is in Ubuntu 16.04’s standard repositories (I just upgraded today and got nicely surprised to see 2.0.2)
It seem the synaptic package library is still not updated.
sudo apt-get install keepassx
still retrieves KeePassX 0.4.3. Any other way of getting the latest version for those Debian Linux users not using Ubuntu?
I must appreciate the way you have expressed your feelings through your blog!
Great to have Keepass 2 in my Mac!
Old KeepassX user

Description: Cross Platform Password Manager
KeePassX is a free/open-source password manager or safe which helps you to
manage your passwords in a secure way. You can put all your passwords in one
database, which is locked with one master key or a key-disk. So you only have
to remember one single master password or insert the key-disk to unlock the
whole database. The databases are encrypted using the algorithms AES or
Twofish.

Thank you for your reply.
Yes, it’s v2.0.2, and the problem showed up after upgrading to Ubuntu 16.04 (amd64).
I both downloaded from the official Ubuntu repo, and also using sudo apt-get install command. Lastly I made a clean 16.04 installation after downloading the 16.04 LTS package and the problem is still here.
Looks to me like a design error in this latest version of keepassx.
For the time being I turned to keepass2 in the wait for some keepassx patch.
Thank you again.
How can I get version 0.X in Kubuntu 16.04?? I really can’t live with the featureless v.2
I just came to a bug in version 2.0.2, OSX 10. When the folder where .kbdx is stored has no execution permission, as an example:
chmod 500 MyKeePassXKeyFolder
If you open the database (.kdbx), add a new entry and save it, the application will mark as saved without throwing any errors. After closing and reopening the application, the database will not contain the new entry.
The lack of execution permission will not let the application create its .lock file, failing to persist new input.
Other than that, great app!
How about opening a bug report on it?

I love how you still write and share about your day and experiences! You feel like such a real, nice, and humble person because of this!
I’ve come here since the Keepass http issue. The developer has completely lost my trust even though the issue has been resolved.
As I’ve switched over to KeepassX I’m concerned about communication and reach for the project. Looks like no Twitter, no Google+? No official app on either the App Store or Play? No XDA presence? No F-Droid releases? Has KeepassX been through any external third party audits, recently? Who develops KeepassX, who contributes? (At least the development is done via Github). Where’s the donation links or ways to support the project?
I’m placing an awful lot of blind trust, again, in a project. Transparency and communication should be a priority when engaging in security software.
Im fairly positive theyre likely to be informed a great deal of new stuff here than anyone
I think your post is very interesting and mostly i keep looking for like this type of websites where i learn or get new concept.
I am happy to visit on your site. Thanks to share it.
I like your all post. You have done really good work.
Thanks for your work. I also switched from v0.4.
With the new look version 2.0.2 doesn’t integrate too much in XFCE, especially on very small screens like the one in my netbook (1024x600px). E.g. when generating a new password the windows gets too big needlessly.
Could you add password column to KeepassX 2? I would be much easier to double click on password and copy it to clipboard instead left-clicking and then searching password copy option in the context menu.
Give us back the password column !
Free the password column š
Thx
One feature that is totally missing in Version 2.x is the ability to import XML files. Thus I am still using version 0.4.3 and will probably continue doing so.
I’ve been a long time user of KeePassX, and have been very happy with this tool for personal and work use.
However, since KeePassX 2 has been released I’ve lost the Perform Auto-Type feature. The command is not available from the main menu or drop-down menu and I cannot specify my Global Auto-Type shortcut.
I suspect this a bug. I attempted to post a description of my problem on the KeePassX forum today after registered, but got a http 500 error when submitting my topic.
Should I post a bug report?
I was using the old KeepPass and after the update I am unable to open my password database file. If I try to import it, it says “Unable to open the database”, and if I try the repair option it tells me that first I have to import the database in order to fix it. Tried both using the password and the keyfile. Anyone had similar issues? What can I do to get to my passwords?
Issue gone. Had to use both the password and the keyfile to import the database. Thanks for this awesome application.
