KeePassX

KeePassX 2.0 Alpha 5 released

Iā€™m happy to announce the fifth alpha release of KeePassX 2.0 as an early Christmas present šŸ˜‰

The most important changes are:

  • Support copying entries and groups using drag’n’drop [#74]
  • Open last used databases on startup [#36]
  • Made the kdbx file parser more robust
  • Only edit entries on doubleclick (not single) or with enter key
  • Allow removing multiple entries
  • Added option to minimize window when copying data to clipboard
  • Save password generator settings
  • Fixed auto-type producing wrong chars in some keyboard configurations [#116]
  • Added some more actions to the toolbar

Special thanks to Albert Weichselbraun for reworking the X11 auto-type code, fixing the bug mentioned above and making it much more maintainable.

Please test the new version and report any issues at https://www.keepassx.org/dev/.

Beware: this is an alpha release. While I believe the code base is already rather stable make sure to regularly backup your database.

How to minimize to tray on Gnome Shell? If I press on Close, it disappear.

  4. Matt says:

Thanks for the build guys and for #36! I requested it a while back and I know it wasn’t high priority so thank you šŸ™‚

  5. Malte says:

Most nice feature of the original is, that it is able to “always stay on top”. It’s much more painless thain, to drop a password and username from the app to for example a website.

    Nonetheless great work, greets!

  6. alex says:

    Many thanks, all right!

  7. Anonymous says:

Does it work with Chromeipass or KeepassHTTP?

  8. yaoxing says:

    Hi,
I’m wondering is there anyway I can set a keyboard shortcut for it? I tried setting a global shortcut, but it just open a new instance everytime.

  9. alexander says:

Alpha 5 i much useful than alpha 4. Thank you!

  10. clwyd says:

Great! KeepassX for Mac is just what I want. Thanks a lot.

  11. jrhbcn says:

    Hi,

Auto-type does not seem to work in my mac. Actually I cannot set the “global auto-type shorcut” in the preferences. I tried to copy the option “GlobalShortcutKey” to the keepass2.ini config file but of course did not work šŸ™‚

Is this still not working in the alpha?

  12. komir says:

I can not wait Alpha 6,7,8 … as RC1, 2 … and so on šŸ™‚ 0.4.3 is not so bad

  13. Ivan says:

Thanks! It’s very useful for me!

  14. Joe says:

This is great software! Seems really stable on GNU/Linux and Windows 8. Can’t wait for the release. No issues with my KeePass 2 databases.

  15. Filip says:

    Hello!

KeepassX 2 for Mac is awesome. But there is one thing I really miss: Jumping to the entries by simply typing their names while the window has focus. So for example: If I type ‘g’, followed by ‘o’, it takes me to the first entry with a title starting with ‘go’.

  16. anon says:

thanks so much, looking forward to the development of this client. it keeps getting better each release! not sure if it’s possible but having an ability to sync with an ios client would be amazing!

  17. Anton says:

    Hi.
Why don’t you sign with ssl certificate a mac os x bundle?

    • Filip says:

Actually, to code-sign Mac OS Apps, you need to be a registered developer in the Apple Developer Program – which costs money. Developers usually don’t bother signing pre-release versions of their software (alpha/beta). You can bypass the certificate check on Mac OS by selecting the file in Finder, holding down CTRL, and clicking on ‘open’ in the context menu.

Yes, I know. But the problem is that smb. could hack a site and inject a malware. And I’m a little bit nervous as I keep private data in the db, as others do.
Apple dev account worth 99USD, I can donate from 1/3 to 1/2 of this sum for this purpose.
Does smb. want to donate for this also?

  18. Schaumb says:

Great stuff on OSX. Thanks for the effort.

    Whishlist:
    1. Remember column width
    2. Option to keep Search toolbar always there
    3. Grayed out save icon gives feedback that there’s nothing new to save

    Thanks!

  19. Nathan says:

Awesome. 5 allows option to remember last opened database, which was a huge pain for impatient old me. Awesome.

I do second Schaumb above in looking to see if it could remember column width, or even set a new window open state (ie open full screen?)

  20. JPK says:

    Great software.

    Wish list:
    1. auto type to work in OS X
    2. remember column width when re-opening

    Thanks for your effort!

  21. A User says:

    Great Product.

One addition/bug, when storing passwords, they are hashed even if the selection to show passwords is enabled.

You are able to see the password in the main list, but not when you are actually entering it.

Thanks and great work on this.

  22. simtep says:

    Great software,thank your works.

  23. Anatoly says:

Why so long not work Perform Auto-Type on Windows (Ctrl+V)? At Ubunut all work correct.

  24. Gary says:

Thank you so much for porting KeePass to OSX.

I was not looking forward to manually re-entering my entire KeePass db into Mac Keychain (there is NO way to import from KeePass into Keychain).

    Excellent work AAAA++++

  25. fenrus says:

thanks for an awesome piece of software,

i have a request that might come in handy for the paranoid users out there. not sure if you take requests, but i’d like an option to lock database when minimising the window
